Staffing Announcement – from the Deputy Minister of Labour
A message from Sophie Dennis, Deputy Minister of Labour
It is with mixed emotions that I announce that George Gritziotis, Associate Deputy Minister and Chief Prevention Officer, will be leaving the Ontario Public Service effective September 30, 2017, to assume the position of Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Ontario College of Trades.
As Ontario’s first Chief Prevention Officer and the ministry’s first Associate Deputy Minister, Prevention Office, George’s achievements have been outstanding and include delivering the first provincial occupational health and safety strategy, a new approach to risk management, a construction action plan and a construction health and safety training strategy, a review of the mining health and safety system and an introduction of new mining regulations, a workplace mental health action plan, a rigorous provincial training standards and certification program and various amendments to theOccupational Health and Safety Act including recent amendments to support an accreditation program.
Under George’s leadership, a new division was established within the ministry, stakeholder and occupational health and safety system partner engagement has been strengthened, and a stronger accountability framework has been established for transfer payment recipients.
Throughout his tenure with the Ministry of Labour, George has worked tirelessly to resolve emerging issues and balance the interests of stakeholders and system partners. George has been a valuable member of the ministry’s senior management team. We will miss his insight, analysis and advice on a wide range of issues.
The recruitment of a successor has been initiated. An announcement respecting an interim successor will be made at a later date.
Please join me in thanking and extending our appreciation to George Gritziotis for his dedication and service to the people of Ontario. George, on behalf of your friends and colleagues at the Ministry of Labour, I wish you every success in all your future endeavours.
