OCS DELIVERS “ROCKSTAR” LINE-UP FOR 2017 OUTLOOK CONFERENCE!      
 
Two of the largest general contractors in Canada will be part of several “headline” participants at the Ontario Construction Secretariat’s 17th Annual State of the Industry and Outlook Conference to be held March 9th in Toronto.  John Beck, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Aecon Group and Chris Gower, Chief Operating Officer, Buildings Group at PCL Construction have agreed to participate in a new addition to the traditional program line-up – a luncheon panel featuring general contractors who will discuss “Challenges and Opportunities in Ontario’s Construction Industry”.
A WIN-WIN FOR EASTERN CONSTRUCTION AT ONTARIO CONCRETE AWARDS 
The month of February is typically considered Awards Season – the Oscars, Grammies and the Screen Actors Guild honours.  Well, the ICI construction industry has its award winners as well.
Beginning with Eastern Construction, which has added two more honours to its long list of awards.  The latest are the 2016 Ontario Concrete Award for Architectural Merit for the Queen Richmond Centre and the 2016 Ontario Concrete Award for Structural Design Innovation for the Audi Midtown Toronto project.
UNION DEMOLITION CONTRACTOR SCORES HUGE INTERNATIONAL HONOURS
Management and staff of Priestly Demolition (PDI) in King, Ontario – just north of Toronto – are still smiling after winning two prestigious awards at the 2016 World Demolition Awards in Miami, Florida.  After submitting seven applications in 11 award categories, Priestly was shortlisted for six awards and then on Awards Night, was presented with the Civils Demolition Award for their innovative Nipigon Bridge Project and the Award of the night – the World Demolition Award.

TURNING UP THE HEAT IN THE BATTLE FOR PROMPT PAYMENT LEGISLATION 
If it’s one thing electrical contractors know well, it’s how to turn up the heat.
Calling the issue of delinquent payment in the construction industry “systemic, rampant, and more often the norm than the exception”, the Executive Director of the Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario [ECAO] appeared before Ottawa’s Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce earlier this month to share his organization’s concerns on the issue of prompt payment.
