Federal Prompt Payment Act to Become Law; Budget Implementation Act passes Senate of Canada
On the evening of June 20, 2019, the Senate of Canada passed Bill C-97, The Budget Implementation Act, which included the Prompt Payment for Construction Work Act.
At that time, it is expected that the Governor General will visit Parliament to sign these bills into law, at which point Canada will have its first federal prompt payment law.
The CISC will continue to keep you updated on the progression of this story.

British Columbia Introduces Prompt Payment Legislation
British Columbia Liberal House Leader, Mary Polak, introduced Bill M-223 (the Prompt Payment (Builders Lien) Act) during the Fourth Session of the 41st Parliament of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet have again approved the Trans Mountain expansion project, a crucial next step for the much-delayed pipeline project designed to carry nearly a million barrels of oil from Alberta’s oilpatch to the B.C. coast each day.
