THE CLASS OF 2017 – COLLEGE OF CARPENTERS AND ALLIED TRADES
In front of a proud audience of family, friends and industry representatives, more than 80 apprentices received their certificates of graduation at the College of Carpenters and Allied Trades (CCAT) 2017 Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony held north of Toronto earlier this month (November).
ONTARIO ECONOMIC OUTLOOK INTRODUCES NEW GRADUATED APPRENTICESHIP GRANT PROGRAM FOR EMPLOYERS
The Ontario government used its 2017 Fall Economic Statement to introduce a new incentive regime for employers of apprentices in Ontario. The new program, the Graduated Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (GAGE), replaces the Apprenticeship Training Tax Credit (ATTC), with the objectives of improving completion rates and increasing apprenticeship opportunities for underrepresented groups.

When construction begins on the Gordie Howe International Bridge in Windsor, mechanical contractors will have their fair share of work. It has been estimated at $30 million over at least the next three years, featuring the construction of support and maintenance buildings as well as a duty-free and customs building.
PROVINCIAL BUILDING TRADES – STILL WORKING HARD AT 60
The Business Manager for the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontariostopped short of suggesting it was a defining moment. However Pat Dillon says the period between 1995 and 2003 “when there was a relentless attack on unionized construction in the province” proved that a building trades council was and is a necessity.
