NEW THINKING TO FUND INFRASTRUCTURE
At the outset, the federal Liberal government included some positives in its Fall Economic Update presented in the House of Commons earlier this month. There was the establishment of a Canada Infrastructure Bank, the Government committed to adopting a global skills strategy and Ottawa will work to attract foreign investment and relax foreign investment restrictions.
DECLINING INSTITUTIONAL PERMIT VALUES CONTRAST BUSY SUMMER
Total ICI permit values increased in Ottawa, London, and Kingston compared to last year’s June-August period. In Windsor, Thunder Bay, Greater Sudbury, and Peterborough, ICI permit values declined. The biggest increase was in Ottawa at 42%. Thunder Bay had the most significant decrease, down 70%.

WSIB RECALCULATES 2017 PREMIUM RATES
Ontario’s construction industry is one of several groups to benefit from a miscalculation of 2017 Premium rates announced in early September by Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).

There are many reasons why Aecon‘s Energy segment in Cambridge is celebrating these days.
Last month, Aecon delivered the first of 24 manufactured ASME III nuclear modules toWestinghouse Nuclear in the U.S. To mark the occasion of the delivery of the first two modules, the company gave a plant tour to invited guests and invited them to lunch with staff at the Cambridge facility. It was an opportunity to showcase the company’s exemplary safety and training record and its energy segment.

TORONTO COUNCIL CLOSES THE DOOR ON EXPO 2025 (But Leaves It Open for 2030)
The fight to persuade the City of Toronto to pursue a bid for Expo 2025 ended in late October when the City’s Executive Committee recommended Council not support the development of a bid to host Expo 2025 in Toronto.
