IHSA Safety Talk: Impairment in the workplace

We often think of impairment as a result of using substances such as alcohol or drugs— whether they are over-the-counter, prescription, or illicit.

However, impairment can result from other things such as:

  • Family or relationship problems
  • Fatigue (mental or physical)
  • Traumatic shock
  • Medical conditions or treatments

Read IHSA’s new safety talk on Impairment in the workplace.

Product spotlight: Handbook for Construction Traffic Control Persons (B016)

With good weather comes more construction on or near Ontario roads and highways. With that construction comes the need for safe and efficient traffic control in order to protect drivers, pedestrians, and workers. IHSA’s Handbook for Construction Traffic Control Persons (B016) provides information on:

  • Objectives and requirements of a traffic control person
  • Equipment needed
  • Safety tips
  • Preparations and checklists
  • Rights and regulations

WSIB releases Health and Safety Index results

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) has released the latest results for its Health and Safety Index.

The Health and Safety Index is designed to measure the overall health and safety of Ontario’s workplaces. It looks at several categories of data in prevention:

Worker empowerment
Workplace culture
Enforcement and injuries.
The index is an evidence-based tool that can help the WSIB, employers, and other partners in the safety system to identify areas for improvement and track outcomes.

To learn more about the index, visit the WSIB website.
