Fourth Annual Women Building California and the Nation Conference
The Fourth Annual Women Building California and the Nation Conference, co-sponsored by the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, and the State Building and Construction Trades of California will be held during the weekend of April 25 – 27, 2014, in Sacramento, CA. Every year this conference has grown in importance. International Association of Iron Workers General President Walter Wise will speak at the conference. In addition, in the on-going effort to strengthen labor-management ties, IMPACT and the International are providing scholarships to 26 members of the International in order that they may attend.
More than 600 outstanding trades-women from all crafts are expected to attend two energetic and educational days of workshops and speakers. Recruitment and retention of women in the trade are vital to the ironworkers union. With the expected rule changes to U.S. Federal construction contractor affirmative action requirements to increase women and minority percentage prerequisites, General President Wise emphasizes the need to not only expand Iron Workers International and IMPACT’s commitment to recruitment but also to retain and advance the sisters who work in the association each day.
